Andreu, amic

Andrew, my friend

Translated by Jordi Miralda Escudé

Andreu, amic,
torsimany de metalls,
d'on ha vingut la força i la vida
que retrobem
en la teua escultura?
Andrew, my friend,
interpreter of metals,
where did you get the force and the life
we rediscover
within your sculpture?

Dels ponts del riu,
i de les pedres velles,
dels clars matins, de la llum dels baladres,
dels teus dos peus,
de passejades dòcils.
Out of the river's bridges,
out of the old pebbles,
out of the clear mornings, the light of the rosebays,
out of your two feet,
out of docile strolls.

Carrers estrets, espais poc metafísics,
tot l'entrellat d'una ciutat difícil,
indiferent, i secularment puta...
Narrow streets, little metaphysics,
the hidden snag of a difficult city,
indifferent, and secularly bastard...

Del llom del gos, la majestat domèstica,
l'angle feroç, de vertical segura,
essencials virginitats remotes...
From the dog's back, domestic majesty
the fierce angle, with steady vertical,
essential, remote virginities.

Andreu, amic,
torsimany de metalls,
eròtic cast, de fusta ben antiga,
arribes tu
on la paraula es trenca.
Andrew, my friend,
interpreter of metals,
erotic chaste, of very ancient wood,
you can reach
where the words break.

De ferro vell, i de mesura insigne,
germans de crit, t'he fet aquest poema,
Andreu, amic,
torsimany de metalls...
Out of old iron, and of distinguished measure,
brothers in the struggle, I made this poem to you,
Andrew, my friend,
interpreter of metals...
