New Course: The Practice of Theoretical Astrophysics
In Fall 2012 I teach 6 sessions of introduction to present research
in astrophysics, where we discuss and solve practical problems in class.
These sessions are open to
all students in the last two years of the Physics degree with an interest
in astrophysics, and to master students and doctorate students. The sessions
are on Thursdays at 3:30, from October 18th to November 29th 2012, in the ICC
Conference Room or the DAM seminar, 7th Floor. This is an informal course
not counting for credit, where problems related to other courses can be
discussed.
The method is that of participatory sessions, where students solve
proposed problems with minimal guidance from the professor. This is
therefore not a series of lectures. Each session is independent and
treats a different problem. Students may also suggest problems to be
discussed. Please contact me for any questions you have.
Courses I have taught at Ohio State University:
Astronomy 682 : Introduction to Cosmology (Spring 2005)
Astronomy 161: Introduction to Solar System Astronomy (Autumn 2004)
Astronomy 870: Stellar Systems (Spring 2004)
Freshman Seminar: Introduction to the Science of Climate Change
(Winter 2004)
Astronomy 822 : Electromagnetic Radiation (Autumn 2002)
Astronomy 162: Introduction to Stellar, Galactic and Extragalactic
Astronomy (Autumn 2001)
Astronomy 172 (Spring 2000)
Astronomy 7 (taught at Univ. of Pennsylvania, Fall 1999)
