WHAT IS SPACE WEATHER?
RESOURCES FOR EDUCATORS
In this page you will find some educational material produced by NASA, which has been adapted and translated to Spanish by Dr. InÚs Rodriguez Hidalgo (IAC, Universidad de La Laguna). This material is intended to introduce primary and secondary school students to the Sun-Earth relations and to Space Weather.
The educational material consists of presentations, which are divided into 3 levels of difficulty (level 1= less difficult, level 3=more difficult). The teacher can choose which level suits better the needs of his/her students. Most of the material is in PDF format, and requires Adobe Acrobat Reader. It can be downloaded from: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html. These presentations come in two versions: with and without animations. To see the animations it is necessary to install the Quicktime Player: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ .
It is recommended that teachers read first some basic information about the Sun and Space Weather (PDF file). A glossary of terms and useful web pages is also available (PDF file).
Presentations without animations: can be printed as slide sets or showed on a PC.
Presentations with animations: the same with animations. Can only be showed on a PC (see note below).
Important: If you want to save the presentations with animations, you should copy the charlas.zip file (70 MB) to your hard disk, without changing the names of the files or the relative paths. It contains the animations (Quicktime movies) and the PDF files with the presentations.
Explanations for each level: the following texts correspond to each presentation level, and contain the explanation for each slide.
