Observations and numerical experiments suggest that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide and depletion of stratospheric ozone will both have a profound effect not only on temperature but also on the patterns of extratropical weather. In this talk, I will survey the evidence for past trends in extratropical weather; the predictions for future trends in our weather; and the mechanisms whereby human emissions are thought to drive these trends.
