Job offer: Engineer/Physicist for the Documentation of the Gaia mission

The Gaia group at IEEC - UB-ICC is seeking a candidate to cover a documentalist position. We offer a contract to join the documentation team that will generate the documentation for the Gaia releases. The job involves receiving from the scientists and engineers working on the DPAC consortium the contents of the documentation in LaTeX format and reformatting it into the system selected for the publication. This system is presently being defined and will allow formatting of the original content into different environments (including the ESA web sites, PDF documents, mobile devices, etc.) and part of the job will be the contribute to its development and implementation for the production phase. The applicant should have familiarity with these processes of electronic publishing and a technical background, especially in astronomy, and programming skills will be a plus.

The job requires:

  • Good level of English (both written and spoken)

  • Good programming skills (preferably in Python)

  • Knowledge of LaTeX, HTML and Javascript

  • Knowledge of Web Content Management Systems   (wiki, Drupal, etc.)

  • Familiarity with large teams work

 

Will be positively evaluated:

  • Degree in physics or engineering

  • Familiarity with mark-up publishing systems, preferably XML

  • Familiarity with Space research

  • Spanish and Catalan are plus. 
     

 

We intend to fill this position as soon as possible.

The contract will be until the end of 2016.

The salary will be agreed upon with the successful applicant.
